The questions owner-operators ask us most

Documents, deadlines, CRA letters, languages, and how we work. Answered plainly. If yours is not here, call us and ask. The first call is free.

Getting started

I'm incorporated. Can you take over from my current accountant?
Yes. We do this regularly. We request your prior year file and registration details, and handle the transition so nothing is missed at year-end.
Do you publish your prices?
We do not. Every business is different, so we talk through what you need on a free first call and are clear about scope before any work begins.
Where are you located?
We are one office in Mississauga, in the Peel region, serving owner-operators across the GTA. The address and map are below.

Corporate tax

What documents do I need to send you?
For most corporations: your bank and credit card statements for the year, last year's tax return, payroll summaries if you have employees, and any major purchase or sale records. We send you a short, specific list for your business so you are not guessing.
What is the deadline for my T2?
Your corporate return (T2) is generally due six months after your fiscal year-end, and any tax owing is usually due two or three months after year-end. We confirm your exact dates on the first call and plan backwards from them.
Do you handle CRA letters?
Yes. When a letter arrives, you forward it to us and we deal with the CRA on your behalf. That includes reviews, requests for information, and reassessments.
Can we meet in person?
Yes. You can come to our Mississauga office, or we can meet by phone or video. We review your return with you whichever way is easiest for you.
What languages do you speak with clients?
We work with clients in English, Urdu, and Hindi. For important conversations about your taxes or a CRA letter, you can speak in the language you are most comfortable with.
Do you file HST and handle payroll too?
Yes. We file your HST/GST returns and can run payroll, so your sales tax and remittances stay current alongside your corporate return.
What if my bookkeeping is behind?
That is common and it is fixable. We help you get the books current first, then prepare the return. We will tell you plainly what it takes.

Personal & self-employed tax

Can I deduct my home office?
If your employer requires you to work from home and signs a T2200, yes: a reasonable share of your rent, utilities, and internet is deductible. We work out the part that genuinely qualifies so it holds up if the CRA asks.
I have a T4 and a T4A. How does that work?
Both go on one T1 return. The T4 is employment income; a T4A is usually self-employment, which we report on a T2125 and claim expenses against. We make sure each is treated correctly.
I have a side business. When is it due?
If you or your spouse have self-employment income, the filing deadline is June 15, but any tax owing is still due April 30. We plan backwards from both so interest does not start.
Do you coordinate with my corporation?
Yes. If you are incorporated, we line up your personal return with your T2 so that how you pay yourself, salary or dividends, is taxed once and worked out for your situation.
I have not filed in a few years. Can you help?
Yes, we do this often. We file your back years and, where you missed a credit on an earlier return, we can request an adjustment so you get it back.

Bookkeeping & payroll

I have fallen behind. Can you catch me up?
Yes, we do this often. We take however many months or years you are behind, reconcile everything, and bring your books current. From there you choose whether to keep them current with us or carry on yourself.
Do I need monthly bookkeeping, or just year end?
It depends on your volume and how much you want to see during the year. If you have regular sales, employees, or you want current numbers for decisions, monthly is usually worth it. If you are small and organized, once a year can be enough. We will tell you plainly which fits.
Which software do you use?
QuickBooks Online or Xero for most clients. If you already have a system, we can usually work in it. If not, we set one up as part of getting started, and we can connect receipt capture so you are not keeping paper.
Do you file my HST?
Yes. We track HST in your books and file your returns on the schedule that applies to you, whether that is monthly, quarterly, or annually.
Can you run our payroll too?
Yes. We run pay on your schedule, calculate and remit CRA source deductions, and prepare T4s, T4As, and records of employment. Keeping payroll and bookkeeping in one place keeps your remittances and your books in step.
Does this connect to my corporate tax?
Yes. When we keep your books, your T2 is built straight from them. Clean books make year end quick and the return accurate, whether we file it or your own accountant does.

Advisory & planning

Can you help me incorporate, or only with taxes?
Yes. We incorporate federally with Corporations Canada or provincially through the Ontario Business Registry, register you for GST/HST and a CRA business number, and set things up to match how you run the business.
Do you prepare financial projections for the bank?
Yes. We build one, two, and three year projections from your real numbers, in a format a lender will accept. We can turn them into a full business plan when you need one.
What is the GST/HST New Housing Rebate?
If you bought or substantially renovated a home to live in, you may be able to recover part of the HST you paid. We check whether you qualify and prepare the claim. This is general information, so we confirm your situation first.
Can you help my family apply for the CCB or the dental plan?
Yes. We help with Canada Child Benefit applications and check eligibility for the Canadian Dental Care Plan. Both depend on your filed returns, which is why it helps to have one firm handle the tax and the application together.
Do you handle non-resident situations?
Yes. We prepare non-resident filings and withholding, and coordinate with the CRA where a non-resident owner or shareholder is involved.
